
If there’s one ever-present breakfast dish in a Maharashtrian household, it has to be the Poha. Poha recipe with its few versions like Kanda Poha, Batata Poha, Dadpe Pohe and Indori Poha – is the staple preparation with flattened rice, herbs and spices.
Ingredients
2 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
3 Green Chillies, chopped
1 sprig Curry Leaves
¼ cup Peanuts
1 Medium Size Potato, small cubes
2 Onion, chopped
Salt to Taste
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
200 gms Pressed Rice (Poha), thick variety
½ Lime Juice
1 tsp Sugar
Fresh Coriander Leaves
Procedure
- Wash the poha in a colander. Poha should be moist but not mashed. Add salt and sugar and mix lightly.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter add green chillies, curry leaves and peanuts. Sauté for half a minute and add onions and potato, continue to sauté.
- Add salt, turmeric powder and mix. Sauté for two minutes and add poha.
- Mix and cook till poha is heated through. Add lemon juice and mix lightly. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
