Medu Wada Recepie

Medu vada (also spelled as “medhu vadai”) is a popular South Indian snack made with urad dal. Here’s a recipe for medu vada:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the urad dal in water and soak it in water for about 4-6 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal into a smooth paste, adding a little water at a time as needed. The paste should be thick and fluffy.
  2. Add the chopped green chilies, grated ginger, asafoetida, and salt to the dal paste. Mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan on medium heat.
  4. Wet your hands with water and take a small ball of the dal mixture. Flatten it slightly to give it a doughnut shape with a hole in the center. Alternatively, you can use a wet spoon to drop the mixture in the hot oil.
  5. Carefully drop the vada into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Remove the vada from the oil with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve the vada hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

Enjoy your crispy and delicious medu vada!
